Placing and Fastening <br /> 1. Place all steel reinforcement accurateiy and hold firmly in the position indicated on <br /> the drawing during the placing and setting of concrete. Tie bars at all intersecNons, <br /> except where spacing is lese than 1 (oot in each direction, then tie altemate <br /> intersections. <br /> 2. Provide the following minimum concrete covering of refnforcement, unless noted <br /> othenvise on the drawings: <br /> a. Concrete Below-Ground Deposited Against Forms: 2 Inches. <br /> b. Concrete Deposited Against Earth: 3 inches. <br /> c. Concrete Elsewhere: As fndicated on the drawfngs or otherwise approved by <br /> the Engineer. <br /> 3. Maintain the minimum distance from the fortns by means of stays, blocks, ties, <br /> hangers, or other approved supports. Blocks for holding roinYorcement irom <br /> contact with the forms shall be precast mortar blocka of compressive strength not <br /> less than 3,750 psi ot approved shape and dimensions, or approved metal chairs. <br /> Metal chairs which are in contact with the exterior suriace of the concrete shall be <br /> plastic-coated or galvanized. Separate layera of bara by plastic chairs, by precast <br /> mortar blocks of compresaive atrength not less than 3,750 psl, or by other equally <br /> suitable devices. The use of pebbles; piecea of broker� stane, brick, and metal <br /> pipe; and wooden blocks will not be permitted. The minim�m apacing between bars <br /> shall be one bar diameter or 1 inch minimum, but not I�•as than 1 1/3 times the <br /> maximum size of coarse aggregate. Place reintorcement, !nspect, and obtain <br /> approval of the Engineer before piacing concrete. Concrete placed In violation of <br /> this provision may be rejected and remova� required, to be followed by placing af <br /> new reinforcing steel and concrete by the Contractor at no additfonal coat to the <br /> County. <br /> 4. In the event that conduita, piping, inserta, sleeves, or ather itema interfere with <br /> placing reinforcement, as indicated on the drewings or as othervvise required, <br /> immediately consult the Owner and obtain appraval of new pracedure be%re <br /> placing concrete. <br /> D. Splicing <br /> 1. Fumish all reinforcement in the full lengths indicated on the drawings. Splicing of <br /> bars, except when indicated on the drawings, will not be permitted without written <br /> approval of the Owner and authorized agent. When approved, stagger splices as <br /> far as possible. <br /> 2.
