Mr. Mitchell met me at ihe residence and showed me the damage. Description of the property: The Mitchell residence is a one story wood tramed residence with a basement (Photos 38-44). The residence is generally rectangular in plan. The attached garage extends toward the street on the south side ol the original house. The entry is on the east side of the residence. Tho root is wood framed with a hipped roof. The basement is constructed wilh a concrete slab on grade and concrete walls, which extend to the main (loor level. A rough partial schematic plan of the basement level of the house is included with this report. Photo indicators on this plan show the location and direction of the photos. Field Observatlons and Conclusiona: Floor joist charring was limited essentially to the area in the NW corner of the basement as indicated on ihe schematic olan and in photos 20-34. I scraped the char in several locations where it appeared ihickest, perhaps as much as 1/4" in it's expanded condition. However the amount of wood material lost was no more than 1/8" on any surface observed. Based on calculations considering the reduced sizc of the joists and that thoy are spanning only short distances, siructural repairs are not noeded.
