80[ING EVERETT SECTION 34 17 14 <br /> NEW RAIL SPUR BALLASTED SPECIAL TRACKWORK <br /> WORK ORDER 10•305 <br /> 3.3 INSTALLATION OF SPECIAL TRACKWORK <br /> A Locate special lrackwork unHs using atetioning,coordinates,end alignment o1 key geomelnc pointa <br /> as indicated on the Contrect Drewings. <br /> B. Position special trackwork plates squarely on switch timbers. <br /> C. Drill four or five 9/16•inch diameter anchor screw hold down holea to a deplh o15 inches minimum <br /> and 6 inches absolute mazimum to suit position at plate in proper turnout alignment. Do not bore <br /> holes in lie in exceas oi the number of lag screws to be used. Do not bore completely through tie. <br /> Remove debris trom holes, end fill hales wAh wood preservative. <br /> D. Clean ties and pletes prior io fnstalling plales to ensure full bearing of Ihe plates on the ties. Install <br /> special trackwork plates and Insulated gauge plates ea indicated within the limits of special <br /> trackwork. <br /> E. Hold down lap screw asaembly holes shall be used. Start tie plete scrows veNically, squared,and <br /> torqued straight. Torque lap screw to manufaclurers specified tension. Exercise care to prevent <br /> over-torGuing lie plete acrews. <br /> F. Mounting botl penetrating tha limber tie on a skew sulficient lo damage or aplit the insulating collar <br /> will be rejeded. The tie shall be plu��ged and redrilled for proper inalallalion end damaged cotlars <br /> and pads shall be replaced. <br /> G. Assemble lhe special trackwork unR using thermite welded Joints as indicated on the Standard <br /> Drawin6s. <br /> H. Fully clip special treckwork rail to the pietes. <br /> 3.4 SURFACING AND ALIGNING BALLASTED SPECIAL TRACKWORK <br /> A. Following the installalion of apecial trackwork on lhe initial layer of ballast, surface lhe speciel <br /> trackwork and olign es specihed herein and in Section 34 11 11, Ballasted Track Construction. <br /> Unifortnly tamp ballasl under bolh sides o1 each tie, directly under each running rail and edge o( <br /> special trackwork componeM tor a distance oi 18 inches on bolh sides at lhe rail. The top ot the <br /> ballast seclion shall be approximalely 1 inch below the bese of the rail throughout special trackwork <br /> unit except in the criba conlaining switch and operating rods where lhe ballast shall be e minimum of <br /> 2 inches below lhe bottom oi the switch rod. The width end slope of the shoulders ehall confortn to <br /> the appropriate sections indicated on the Standard Drawings. <br /> B Compact ballast shoulders with a vibrator shoulder compactor in accordance lo compacting <br /> requirements in Section 34 11 11, Ballasted Track Conslrudion. <br /> 3 5 LUBRICATION At the lime of instatlation, lubncate all sliding surfaces o( special trackwork <br /> assemblies with a dry film graphAe lubricant Grease switch rod clips in accordance with the <br /> manufacturer's instructions Maintain the IubricaUon specified lherein es necessary to ensure proper <br /> operation o1 all components throughout the duration ollhe construction Contract. <br /> 3 6 FINAL ALIGNMENT AND INSPECTION <br /> A The tinal surlace and allgnment of special trackwork shall be withm the track and lumout tolerances <br /> specified for ballasted track construction After the final suAacing and allgning is completed,dress <br /> Permd Set 34 �� �4" 4 <br /> September 73. 2011 <br />
