BOEING EVERETT SECTION 34 11 16 <br /> NEW RAIL SPUR WELDING OF RAIL <br /> WORK OROER 10305 <br /> PART1 -GENERAL <br /> 1.1 DESCRIPTION <br /> A. This Section includes specificatinns tor fabricating continuous weided rail (CWR) slrings and <br /> other welding o( running rail, including testing, inspecting, Iransporting o( rail end CWR, and <br /> qualifying of welding end welders. Rail welda shall be of Iwo types: <br /> 1. Pressure Welds: Electric flesh-butt pressure welding procesa to be used for welding rails <br /> to be fabricated into continuous welded rail stringa. <br /> 2. Thermite Welds: Thermite welds shall be used only at locations where N ia impractical to <br /> perform Pressure Welds, and for joining continuous welded rail strings. Shop pre�curved <br /> rail shall be welded in place in the track. <br /> R. Pressure welding may be performed using either a fixed eleclric flash-butt welding plant or e <br /> mobile welding machine designed for rail weldinp or an existing rail welding faciliry operaled by <br /> one o1 lhe major railroads. <br /> C. Electric flash•butt welds mey be subslituted lor thermite welds,where applicab�e. <br /> D.
