DOEING EVERETT SECTION 34 11 16 <br /> NEW RAIL SPUR WELDING OF RAIL <br /> WORK ORDER 10305 <br /> described in the AREMA Manual Chapter 4, Pert 2, "Specificetion lor the �uality <br /> Assurance of Electric Flash-Bult Weldi�g of Rail". <br /> a. Acceptance critena lor thia test shall be a minimum of 12-inch deflection and <br /> 125,000 pounds (minimum) per squere inch modulus of rupture for thertnite welds <br /> and a minimum of 3/4-inch deflection and 125,000 pounds (minimum) per squere <br /> inch modulua of rupture for flash-buH welds. <br /> 6. Hardness Test for Sample Rail VJelds. One of each type sample weld that hes passed <br /> Ihe rediographic test and ultrasonic leat shall be longitudinally crosa•sectioned for e <br /> distance of 8 inchea each side of the weld, macroetched, and Rockwell-hardneas lested <br /> with a 150-kgf diamond apheraconical penetrator. The semple reil weld shall be tested <br /> for hardnesa vertically end horizontally on the longitudinal section in 1R-inch incramente <br /> for 3 inchea eaeh side of the cenlerline of the weld. <br /> a. Acceptance shall be the decrease in herdnesa shall be uniform and colncide with <br /> parent rail wNhin e meximum o( 2 inches from center of weld. The finiehed weld <br /> throughout ahall have Rakwell herdnesa numbera belween 31.2C end 42C on the <br /> 45N acale. <br /> 7. Should any sample rail welds(eil to satisly the specified requirements, either the welding <br /> process or Ihe welding crew, or both, will not be permitled on the project. Should any <br /> supervisor of the welding crew be replaced during the work, the welding crew shall be <br /> requallfied under the new supervisor. <br /> D. �uatification of Teating Technician: <br /> 1. Teating ahall be peAortned by a lechnician certified to have met ASNT procedure <br /> SNT-TC-1A, Levsl II or III qualificalions. <br /> a. Ultresonic inspection of welda shall be performed in eccordance with ASTM E164. <br /> Prior to teatinp oi welds, the technician certified in eccordance with ASNT <br /> procedure SNT-TC-1A, Level II or III ahell be tested to ensure its ability to calibrate <br /> Ihe equipment and deted defects in rail. The test shell be conducled with the <br /> standard IIW celibration blocks, DSC Blocksand calibration rail as apecified in <br /> 1.04G serving as the tesl specimena. The technician shall locate ell the holes in <br /> the calibrelion rail by ultresonic testinp. Thia lest will be observed by en <br /> independent technician provided by Sound Traneit, ceAified �n eccordance with <br /> ASNT procedure SNT-TC-1A, Level II or III end experience in ultrasonic <br /> examination of rail welds. Failura lo pass this test will result in the disqualification <br /> of the technician. <br /> E. Field Tesling of Produclion Welds All production 11esh butt welde and lhertnite welds shell be <br /> visually, radiographically, magnelic particle and ultrasonicalty tesled m the field tor defects as <br /> (ollows <br /> 1. Visual testing by lhe Contredor shall be in accordance wAh AREMA standards. <br /> 2.
