Beehtel Corporatfon
July 24, 1997 Terracon
Pge 2
1

Subsurface Exploration Conditlons: We explored subsurtace conditions by drilling one boring
to a depth of 31.0 feet at the proposed monopole location. A continuous log of the test boring was
recorded by our field representative during the drilling operations. At selected intervals, samples
of the subsuAace materials and penetration tests were taken by means of driving split spoon
samplers. The soils were classified in general accordance with the classification system described
in Figure 2. A key to the boring Iog is presented in Figure 3. The boring log is presented in
Figure 4. Ground water measurements were made in the test boring immediately after drilling.
As presented on the boring log, subsuface conditions consist of 2 inches of asphalt concrete that
overlies silty gravel with sand to a depth of 2 feet. Stift silt was encountered from a depth of 2 feet
to a depth of 8 feet and overlies dense silty fine sand which was encountered to a depth of 24 feet.
Very dense fine sand was encountered from a depth of 24 feet to the bottom of the boring.
Ground water was not observed in the test boring at the time of field exploration. These
observations represent only current ground water conditions, and may not be indicative of other
times or at othor locations. Ground water levels shouid be expected to fluctuate seasanally and
with varying weather conditions.
Laboratory TesHng: Selected samples were tested to determine the natural moisture content and
dry density of the soils. The results are presented on the boring log (n Figure 4. Leboratory swell
and consolidation test results indicate that the near surface soils are nonxpansive and exhibit low
compressibility at in-situ moisture contents. The consolidation test results are presented in
Figure 5.
The results of corrosion tests completed in general accordance with ASTM (American Society of
Testing Materials) methods are summarized in the foilowing table:
Corrosivity Teat Results
Depth Soil Realativlty Sulfatos
(feet) Classiflcat(on pH (ohmcm) (ppm)
5.5 ML 6.3 4,'100 <1.0
, 10.5 SM 6.5 20,000 <1.0
These values shoutd be used to determine potential corrosive rharaderistics of the on-site soils
with respect to contact with the various underground materials which wil be used for project
construction.
i
