I `
Berkley Structures, Inc. E-3592
October 20, 1987 Page 3
property is roughly rectangular, with a triangular portion compri-
sinq the east eide, enclosing a total of about twelve (12) acres.
The property is a gently rolling glacial tilt upland. Major changes
in the topography are found in the northwest building corner and the
steep cliffs along the northeast property edge. The property is
located along the southwest edqe of a large borrow pit. The
vertical cliffs ranqe in heght from about forty-one (41) to ona
hundred (100) feet above the pit floor. The property continues to
slope up from the top of the clif, at a qraient of about 4: 1
(Nori2ontal:Vertical) to the east end of the proposed buildinq area.
This portion of the proposed buildinq has been partially qraded as a
part of the pit operations to the northeast. An odd shaped mound is
located at the northwest buildinq corner. A north-south trendinq
wetland appears to be located near the west property line. The
north property line is near an area that appears to be a portion of
the aP}acent pf.t that has been filled in.
Site vegetation consists of small alders and brush. Occasional
evergreen trees are scattered over the property.
Subsurface
The site was explored by excavating thirteen (13) test pits at the
approximate locations shown on Plate 2. Please refer to the Test
Pit Loqs, Platea 6 through 17, for a detailed description of the
conditions encountered at each location explored. More detailed
descriptions of our field exploration and laboratory testinq
proqrams are included in the appendix to this report. The following
is a qeneralized description of the subsurface conditions en-
countered.
In generl, subsurface soil conditions consist of about six inches
tu twp and one-half feet of forest duff, topaoil and topsoil fill.
Tlie average thickness of the topsoi] and duff is about one foot.
Below the topsoil is a red brown to liqht brown ailty fine to medium
Band vhich is about one ko two feet in thickness. Beneath this, and
exttnding to depth, is a very dense light brown to gray silty fine
to madium sand with a little gravel. We have described this as e
ql.aclal till or "hardpan" . We estimate the glacial till is abouL
twenty-five (25) to sixty (60) feet thick. According to the
exposures in the pit to the northeast, the t11! caps very dense
eands and qravels.
In the northeast building corner araa, our exploratory excavations
encountered a gray and brown loose to medium dense silty fine to
medium sand fill. our test pits (Test Pits TP-7 through TP-9) were
unable to penetrate this fill in sFite of reaching depths on the
Earth Consullents, nc.
