Note that the till soil at the site is sensitive to changes in moisture content and an be easily
disturbed when exposed to water and construction traffic. Care should be taken during
construction, particularly during the wet season. Even with precautions, we expect that some
portion of the till will require removal and replacement during the compacted filling
operations or subsequent excavations where moisture conditions exceed optimum levels.
The material should be a well -graded and or sand and gavel with
less than 5 percent fines. The material should not content any organic stutter or other
deleterious materials.
The fill should be pieced in boa lifts not exceeding 6 to t inches
and compacted to at lent 95%of maximum dry density based on ASTM-1557 test procedure.
6.0 RECOMMENDATIONS - EXISTING STRUCPURS
We understand that some heavy, settlement-ses aitive machines ers to be installed in the
existing building 40-56. Augerart piles an proposed for the support of the machine. Pile
apecities of 40 to 50 tons per pile an be used for preliminary design purpose. The piles should
be at least 16 inches in diameter and they should be placed with at Nest 48 loches specing. The
piles should bear in natural glacial till, the depth of which will vary within the building. Detailed
design parameters and recommendation an be provided when the baton and lading
information become available.
••005.00695.016\sao10r00.aV
00695.509.016 21
