A California Bearing Ratio (CBR) value of 20 may be used for design. If Portland Cement
Concrete pavements are considertd, the modulus of subgrade reaction, k, may be taken as 250
pounds per cubic inch (pci).
5.8 SITE PREPARATION
As previously mentioned, at least 2 feet of select fill should be placed underneath the slab.
This may require some cutting at the southern end of the expansion. For the area in fill, the site
should first be stripped of asphalt pavement and bus course said any underground utility Bees
should be relocated. Any soft soils exposed at the surface should be overoxavated. After
stripping and cutting to tom, the entire site should be proof -roiled by a pneumatic -tired device
such as a loaded tandem -axle dump tr6ck to detect any yielding area which should be further
overoxavated. The proof -rolling should have 100%coverage and should be conducted under the
visual inspection of Dames A Moore's geotechnial engineering personnel.
After proof -rolling and inspection approval. structural fill am than be placed. The structural
fill up to 2 feet below floor slab an be till or other approved soil fills. Select fist should be used
from there and up to the slab subgrade. The criteria for the till OW select fills are listed below.
The material should be placed in loose lifts not exceeding 6 to g
inches and compacted with the following criteria:
Density: A minimum of 95% of maximum dry density based on
ASTM-1557 test procedure.
Moisture: Wtthtm 2% below and 1% above Optimum Moisture Content
(ASTM-1557)
• • 00S • 006" - 016\ua0r00. erp
006"-s".0% 20
