REPORT OF GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION <br />PROPOSED BUILDING 40-56 EXPANSION <br />BOEING EVERETT FACILITY <br />EVERETT, WASHINGTON <br />For the <br />BOEING COMPANY <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br />This report presents the results of our geotechnial investigation and consultation for the <br />proposed expansion of Building 40-56 in Everett, Washington. The expansion is to be located on <br />the north end of the existing building, as shown on Plate 1 of this report. The report describes <br />the nature of the proposed project, the field investigation and laboratory testing programs, the <br />scope of analysis conducted and our recommendations for foundation support and construction. <br />2.0 PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION <br />The existing Building 40-56 is to be extended about 420 to 525 feet northward over the full <br />length of the building. The extension is to be a steel structure with column spacing typically at <br />50 by 100 foot grid. The South column line of the extension is to be located immediately adjacent <br />to the north wall of the existing structure. The expansion an be separated into three area; <br />mezzanine area at the southern end, low bay arm at the eastern portion, and high bay area in the <br />western portion. Maximum loads of about 1,100 kip an anticipated for columns in the Vacuum <br />Pump Room, which is about 50 feet by I50 feet in dimension and is located within the mezzanine <br />area. Typical column lads in the low and high bay areas an 280 and 590 kips, respectively. <br />Floor loads in the proposed expansion are expected to be on the order of 500 pounds per <br />square foot (psf). Slab -on -grade construction is proposed. A pedestrian tunnel about 15 feet <br />deep and 16 to 20 feet wide is proposed in the east -west direction in the mezzanine arm.
