smaller egression tunnels in the north -south direction across the expansion are also planned.
Subsurface utilidors and press -pits are proposed within the expansion area.
The south column line of the proposed expansion will be located about 6 feet north of the
column line for the existing building except at the northwest corner of the existing building where
existing caissons will be used for suppo t. The existing columns have been supported on caissons
(drilled piers) that are embedded at lout 4 feet Into a glacial till bearing stratum.
The finished floor of the new expansion area will match that of the existing building at
Elevation $45 feet. This will necessitate the addidon of less than 1 foot of fill at the south and
and about 10 feet at the north and of the new expansion. Retaining walls up to a feet in height
are planned along the building lines. Outside the building will be parking areas having either
rigid or flexible pavements.
3.0 SCOPE
The purpose of this geotechnical investigation is to examine subsurface conditions and provide
design and construction recommendations for the proposed building 40-56 expansion.
Specifically, our services include the following:
1. Review pro -development topographic data and geotachnical information obtained from
previous investigations conducted in the vicinity of the project site.
2. Review caisson installation records for the first (1978/1979) and second (1989) expansion
of the building.
3. Explore the subsurface conditions by drilling a total of 9 borings. Field exploration
procedures and lag of Borings are included in Appendix A.
( a-005.00695.016%saos0700.arp
I 00695.509.016 2
