In some areas where water had <br /> accumulated, a crushed stone fill was used. We then monitored the stability of the cut slopes and <br /> � the bacMilling around the tunnel walls. Laboratory compaction testing and field density testing was <br /> provlded by PSI, Inc. <br /> FOOTINGS <br /> Our representative monitorecf ihe preraration of subgrades for footings lor perimeter walls, <br /> wind-load columns, blockhouse walls and stairwells. The presence of adequate bearing soils was <br /> • confirtned, and unsatisfactory bearing conclitions were addressed where necessary. <br /> UTIUTIES <br /> Our representative monitored the excavation and bacMilling of utility trenches withln the building <br /> tootprint. Some oF these excavations were up to 15 teut deep. Bedding for new utility Ilnes was <br /> cortipacted to 95 percent of the maxlmum dry density, and the upper-most 4 feet o( the trench <br /> backfill, I.e. Immediately below the Noor slab, was also compacted to 95 percent. Laboratory <br /> cornpaction testing and field densfty testing was provWed by PSI, Inc. <br /> CONCLUSIONS <br /> It is the opinion of Dames 8 Moore that foundation•related constructfon work monitored by our <br /> representatives within the (ootprint of the Building 40-56 expansion has �een completed In <br /> ' accordance with the specificatlons(or the pro�ect and with recommendatlons provided In the above- <br /> referenced geotechnical reports by Dames 8 Moore. <br /> � " Specifically, it is our opinion that: <br /> � • Drilled caissons have been sized cleaned, and founded in competent soils end generally <br /> � constructed in accordance with geotechnical recommendations and des(gn specifications. <br /> .�.,..�.��.. .,,,.w <br />
