The second layer shall be finished with <br />joint tape and compound. <br />In roof -ceiling assemblies in which TJI joists are <br />spaced more than 24 inches (610 mm) on center, the <br />ceiling, including the resilient channels, shall be <br />applied to stripping spaced 24 inches (610 mm) on <br />center. The attachment of the ceiling membrane to <br />the stripping members shall be similar to the <br />attachment of the ceiling membrane to the ' JI joists. <br />The stripping shall be a minimum of nominal 2 x 4 <br />Construction -grade Douglas fir kxnbw for spans up to <br />5 feet 0524 mm) and shag be attached to the bottom <br />flanges with minimum 10d rails. The ceiling membrane shall consist of a single layer of <br />% inch (12.7 mm) thick Type X gypsum board <br />attached to joists or to stripping spaced at a <br />maximum of 24 inches (610 mm) on center. The <br />gypsum board stall be fastened with 1-5/8 inch (41.3 <br />mm) long Type S screws located 6 inches It52 mm) <br />on center at end joints and 8 inches (203 mm) on <br />center in the field. <br />4. An approved, exposed, fire rated suspended ceiling <br />system shall be installed beneath the gypsum board <br />ceiling. The minimum distance between the <br />suspended ceiling and the gypsum board ceiling shall <br />be 12 inches 1305 mm). The grid system shall be <br />suspended with No. 12 SWG galvanized steel wire <br />fastened to the TJI joists or to stripping with 3 inch <br />176 mm) long flathead hanger screws.
