These fluids shall be disposed of properly, <br /> preferably by recycling. <br /> 4-2.2.3 BMP 51.20 VEHICLE/EQUIPMENT WASHING AND STEAM CLEANING <br /> Washing of vehicles,eq:�ipment and parts such as construction equipment, shall occur in a building or in a <br /> designated area such as tnat described below. This requirement refers to all methods of washing in which water <br /> is used, including low-pressure water, high-pressure water,and steam. <br /> Note: The use ojmobile wash services is not al/owed unless the wash water can be contoined and discharged to <br /> a sanitary sewer per thc requrremenls oj(he City's Industrial PreJreatment Program or discharged into and be <br /> trealed by a closed-loop recycling sys�em. Exceptions to Ihese Genera!Requirements are noled below. <br /> GENERAL REQUIREMENTS <br /> Wash water from vuhicle and equipment cleaning shall be discharged to the sanitary sewer, after meeting the <br /> requirements of the City's Industrial Pretreatment Program. 7he owner shall conduct washing in one of the <br /> following locations in order of oreference: <br /> 1. At a cummercial washing business in which the washing occurs in an enclosure and drains to the sanitary <br /> sewer or; <br /> 2. Inside the owner's vehicle or equipment building which is plumbed to drain to the;anitary sewer or; <br /> 3. In a building the.owner has constructed specifically for washing pf vehicles and equipment which is <br /> plumbed to drain to the sanitary sewer or; <br /> 4. In a covered,outside area designated by the vehicle owner as a wash area,meeting the requirements <br /> outlined bclow. <br /> REQUIREMENTS i'OR WASH AREAS <br /> I. The area shall be paved, preferably with Portland cement,and constructed as a spill containment pad to <br /> prevent the run-on of stormwater from adjacent pavement areas. The wash area shall be graded so that <br /> all water is collected in a drain system. The drain system may consist of perimeter drains,trench drains, <br /> or catchment drains. The wash pad shall be sized to extend out a minimum of four feet on all sides of the <br /> vehicles and/or equipment being washed. <br /> 2. A Portland cement spill containment pad is required for steam cleaning. <br /> 3. All wash water shall dischargc to the sanitary sewer, process treatment,or a dead-end sump,per <br /> Industrial Pretreatment Program requirements. <br /> 4. In areas where the wash water cannot be discharged to a sanitary sewer,wash water must be collected in <br /> a dead-eud sump,tank, or other device and trnnsported to the nearest sanitary facility for proper disposal. <br /> 5. The wash area sliall be well marked at gas stations,multi-family residences,and any other business <br /> where veliicles may be washed by non-employees. Included in the posting shall be a statement <br /> forbidding the changing of oil in the wash area. <br /> 4-2-7 ? � � <br />
