CASCADE TESTING LAORATORY. INC.
TESTING 61NSPGCTION/LNGINEEf:S/G[OLOGISTS
December 16, 1981
Cert. No. 8112-13G
Paper Warehouse Corporation
'age 5
Due to the depth at which bearing soils were encountered near trie
southeast footing line and the substantial amount of subsurface
water along this line, special site preparation procedures and
construction precautions are offered. These special considerations
etfect the entire foundation area, so earthwork should roceed in a
prudent and careful manner.
In TP-3 medium dense bearinq scils were encountered approximately
six feet eight inches (6'8") beloo the surface e•levation. The large
volume of groiand water encountered at this elevation would create
near impossible conditions for placing fa`ng concrete. As an
alternative to setting footings on the medium dense soi'_s, the area
from TP-5 to TP-3 to TP-1 should be prepared as outlined below;
also, the easL-ernmost column Eooting pads may necessitate the same
special preparation as outlined below.
Trench - Backfill
Excavate a trench a minimum width of three (3) feet outside and
three (3) feet inside the edge of footing, through the area from
TP-5 around to TP-4. Verification of bearing soils in the overexca-
vated area should be made by the soil engineer during the earth-
working phase. The trench should be excavated down to medium dense
to dense soils as described in TP-3. Heavy water seepages into the
excavation should be expected. To reduce the effect oE che large
volumes of grund water, we recommend excavatig a aump adjacent to
and connected to the footing trench. The sump should ba excavated
deeper than the footing trench to allow the excess water o flow
toward the sump from the footing trench. Keep the sump area pumped
out at all times prior to placing backfill in the footinq trench.
Should the trench area be pumped down and then allowed to fill up
