Walls designated as SW2 are shear walls which require
that they be attached to the roof diaphram. Therefore,
these walls must extend through the ceiling and be
attached to the roof and sheathed per the shear wall
notes. One exception to this can be allowed at the
most westerly SW2 wall. Here, a Plywood gusset can be
added between the shear wall top plate where it intersects
with the existing 7" wide GLB. The gusset must nail to
the GLB and shear wall top plate. The top plate will
require straps at all splices. This will allow a
portion of SW2 (8'+) to terminate at the ceiling. The
remainder of this wall, further to the north, must continue
up to and attach to the GLB above the ceiling.
2. The high roof portion (eastern most bay) is being framed
with horizontal plywood diaphrams constructed at levels
approximately ten feet on center. At the top level, the:
roof diaphram intersects the horizontal diaphram on the
south side and two plywood sheathed shear walls running
east -west on the north. This level is braced below with
the continuation of the two shear walls on the north and
a shear wall (SW1) on the south. The shear wL11 designated
on the plan as SW4 should continue up to this level.
3. I have checked the 4x1O, placed in lieu of the 4x12 called
out on the plans. I have concluded that with adequate
nailing of the plywood sheathing on this wall between the
4x1O and window sill above the 4x1O will be acceptable.
4. Shear wall SWl, located approximately ten feet south of
the north exterior wall, must have a joist or solid blocking
located between the top plate and the plywood floor
