MEMORANDUM
TO: Gordon Witcher
FROM: Jane 'Limmerman
DATE: November 19, 1991
SUBJECT: Goodman Auto Sales Plan Review,
Oil/Water Separator Issues
The oil/water separator serving the carwash area must not
receive runoff from the surrounding area. It is not
intended to treat stormwater runoff, just the wash water
prior to discharge to the sanitary sewer. The wash area
must be hydrologically isolated from the rest of the site.
As indicated on earlier mark-upc, the saparator is to be
sized for the expected rate of discharge that will be usecl
to wash cars. The size of the service and the expected
water presGure can be used to determine the expected rate of
flow.
The newly submitted plans show the site divided into two
sub-basins, basin A and basin B. All the runoff from the
site must be routed through an oil/water separator prior to
being dischargeZ from the site. The site should be altered,
either by grading or installatior of storm drain, to route
all runoff to a common discharge point. The runoff would
then be routed throuqh an oil/water separator sized for the
entire site.
If all the runoff from the site cannot be routed to a common
discrarge point, then an oil/water separator for each sub-
basin will be necessary in addition to the oil/water
separator serving the carwash area.
Per earlier comments, the oil/water separator(s) provided
for stormwater runoff treatment must be equipped with
coalescing plates.
