Steeves:
As requcsted, we have performed a geotechnical review of the plans for the above
referenced site. These plans consist of Sheets 1 through 5, dated Mazch 11, 2000,
prepared by The Leren Company, Inc. and include General Notes, Lower and Main
Floor Plans, Details, Sections, Elevations, and a Foundation Plan.
Upon completing our review of these plans, we offer the following comments.
• Section C, Soil and Foundation Data, on Sheet 1 indicat.s a passive resistance
of 300 pcf was used in the design of the foundation. This value should be
changed to 250 pcf as recommended in Section 12.1 of our October 2, 1998 soil
report. In addition, this section should be change:d to indicate that all footings
should be founded upon the medium dense to very dense, natural, undisturbed
soil and our October 2, 1998 soil report should be reference.
• Three options were provided in our October 1998 soii report for consuuction of
slab on grade floors. These included: excavation and replacement of all of the
existing fill soils and loose, naturai sedimenGti under the slab area and
replacement of these materials with structural fill, construction of a structural
slab supported on drilled piers, and construction of a floating floor slab.
Although it is apparent from the plans that a structural slab will not be used, it is
not clear which of the other two options are to be utilized. This should be
