clarified in the plans and the appropriate subgrade preparation reco.nmendations
as specified in our 1998 report should be included.
• Specifications for the capillary break and vapor barrier below the floor slab
should be included in the plans. The capillary break should consist of a
minimum duckness of 4 inches of washed pea gravel with a 6 mil (minimum
thickness) plastic vapor barrier placed c ver the pea gravel. Two inches of clean
sand should be placed over between the vapor barrier and the concrete slab.
• On Sheet 5 retaining wall details Sl and S2 show the footing drain on top of the
footing. The plan should be changed to indicate that the drain is to be set
approximately 2 inches below the base of the footing and sloped to drain. Also,
the drain on S2 is shown inside of the garage. It should be moved to the base of
the footing on the outside of the building. The plans should also indicate that
footing drains should be provided around all of the perimeter footings.
Upon completion of the above corrections, it is our opinion that the plans will conform
with our geotechnical recommendations. If you should have any questions or require
any addidonal information, please do not hesitate to call.
p.
