Subsurfate Ezplorarion, Geologic Hazard,
liibitskiy Reside»ce and Geoethnica!Engineering Heport
L•verert, 11ashingta: Project and Site Conditions
2.0 SITE AND PRO]ECT DESCRIPTION
The project consists of the construction o[ a ne residential building at Uie above-referenced
location. The residence is to be multi-story vith a daylighl basemenUgarage, conventional
foundations, and slab-on-grade floors. Foundation loads are expected to be relatively light.
Thc property is bordered to Ue north, south, and west by single-family residences, and to the
east by Friday Avenue. The site gencrally slopes to the east and sligh.ly south. Partial
grading has already Ucen performed, but due to perniitting issues, has since been discontinued.
Tlie grading consisted of 8 to 10 fect of cut along the northern and vestern portions of the
property. Thc exposed cuts have since been faced with an ecology block all and soil
reinforcement. VVe expect ihat the .vall bc removed and rebuilt priar to proceeding eith
construction.
3.0 SUBSURIACL- GXPLORATION
Our field study included oUserving existing cuts and observing an cxploration pit on thc sitc.
The various types of sedimenis encountered during die excavation, as well as the depth whcrc
the charac[eristics of the sediments changed, are indicated on the exploration log presented in
the Appendix. The deptU indicated on the log where conditions changed may represent
gradational variations beteen sediment types. Our exploration was approximately located in
the field by referencing known site features, and Qie exploration pit locations have been
included on Ihe attache "Site and Gxploration Plan," Figure 2.
The conclusions and recommendations presenicd in this report are based, in part, on the
observed cuts and the eXploration pit completed for this study. The number, location, and
deptli of the on-site exploration were completed witlin sitc and budgctary constrain!e. Because
of the nattire of explorarory work below ground, interpretation of suUsurfacc conditions may bc
nccessary. It should be noted that differing subsurface conditions may sometimes be present
due to the random namre of deposition and thc alteration of topography by past grading and/or
filling. The nature nd extent of any variations beyond our field exploration may not become
filly evident until construction. If variations are observed at tlat time, it may Ue necessary to
rc-cvaluate specific recommendations in this repnrt and make appropriate cUanges.
3.1 Gxploration Pit
The exploration pit was excavated by thc clicnt. The exploration pit, as well as the observed
cuts, permitted direct, visual observation of subsurface conditions. Materials encountered in
the exploration pit vere studied and classificd in the field by a georechnical engineer from our
finn. 7'he exploration pit was backfilled immediately after examination and logging.
