r" _.
2209 Fulton St
Memo
Oct 20, 1994
Page 2
material. I noted that he had placed a tarp over the roof, had
placed tires on it and ded it down in places.
I talked with the tenants and explained the situaGon to them. I
also advised them that they may need to move out on Monday if
the situation worsened with any rain over the weekend. Then I
called the owners and asked when the work would continue. The
owner could not give me any date of conGnuing but indicated that
it would be soon. I informed the owner that the building may be
vacated if these conditions aze not remedied within the next few
days.
Oct. 13, 1994 Throughout this past week, I condnued to check with the tenants
to insure their safety and continued to call the owner. TodaY, the
owner came into the office and wanted to obtain a bwlding
permit. The plans examiner advised the owner that the plans
submitted on 9-30-94 for repair of the roof were insufficient and
more information was needed.
At 11:30 PM I received a call from someone identifying himself
as the contractor who gave up on the job Oct. 7th. He said all
the tenants were at his place, rain water was coming out c+f the
electrical outlets xnd there was standing water in the units. He
stated that he was "going to sue the owner of the property and the
city for not doing anything with this problem, and he was going
to have the news media at the site at 10:00 AM in the morning. I
advised him to call the Building Officixl tomorrow as I was off
work that day.
Oct. 14, 1994 I called the Building Official today and advised him of the
threatening phone call last night. I also advised the Building
Official that this was the contractor who removed all the roofing
materials and placed a tarp over the roof, quit the job and now he
wants us to take immediate action against the owner.
Oct. 17, 1994 The Building Official said that he talked with the tenants on
Friday (Oct. 14) and they indicated that they were moving out. I
inspectecl the site and noted that the places looked vacated for the
most part. There were animals still on the property and some
items in the kitchens. The tarp was still in place over the units.
I proceeded to post the places "NOTICE" "Illegal to Occupy". I
called the office and advsed them if the tenan!s should cal! wth
any questions about the "NOTICE", they could enter the building
to remove their belongings but they could not live in the building
anymore.
