i
Scou Pcarson
Septembcr 27, 3007
1'age 2
Our services have been provided on the basis of a revie of esisting infomiation.
ceologic reconnaissance of the site and adjacent arca on Septembcr 18, 2007. discussions
ith you regardine t: proposed devclopment, and our experience.
SITE CONDITIONS
The suhject property is located at 4712 Darlington Lane in the Darlin-ton neighborhood
of Everett, Washington, as shown on the Vicinity Map (Pigurc I). h is situated at an
cication of approsimately 200 feet(msl)on n ridgetop overlooking Possission Sound. The
eastern portion of the lot consists of an upland arca that includes the existing residence. The
western portion of the lot conists of a steeply sloping area that descends to a small creck
ncr the westem property boundary.
Youreisting residencc is locatedvithin the eastem, gently sloping upland p:nion of thc
property. The area surrounding the house is vegetted mainly by erass. with some shrubs.
'Che westcrn portion of the property consists of a steep slope, most ofhich is inclined
steeper than10 percent. and is vegetated mainly by brush and tmes. A distinct top of slope
separates the upland arca from the stecp slopc area. 1'e have indicated the top of that steep
slope on thc Sitc Plan(igure 2. based on a dravinc that you provided to us); as shom, thc
top of thc steep slope is locatcd approximately 1 fcet Crom the southwest (closest) corner
of the existing liouse, and approximately 4 fect from the southest (dosesQ comer of the
proposed addition.
Gcologic conditions ithin and adjacent to the site •erc evaluated by surticc
reconnaissnce and shallow,hnnd-dug eplorations. A 3. eet deep hand auger exploration
in a planting area locatedvithin the arca of the proposed addi+ion encountered medium dense
to dense glacinl aJance outash sand (Qva) immediately bcle the topsoil. Glacial
outash sand as also oUscrved vithin a planting area located along the top of the steep
slope est oi'thc eisting residence. 'I'his is consistent with esisting gcologic mapping of
this area(.lames P. Minard. 1952,llistribution and Description of Geolocic Units,Mukilteo
Qu1d, Nashincton: USGS Map Mf-1135),ecept that the cappinc layer ofglacial till does
not appcar to he present within the sitc. That map indicates that silty soils(Qtb)underlie the
sand along thc slope adjacent to the creek. thoueh nonc cre observed during our site
reconnlissance. Wet soils and vegetation within the lower portion of that slope suggests the
loer portion of the slope is uuderlain by silty soils. No evidence of groundwatcr seepaec,
surl'ace water runoff or erosion vas obsened within the upland poriion of the site or within
the upper portion of the slopc.
a
7505 West Lake Sammamish Parkway Northeast Redmond,Washington 98052 425•882-4850 wvnv.ubbs.Co
