Mr. Mel Konsmo E-7548
January 14, 1997 Page 2
Geogrid Length - feet
Wall Height Number of Geogrid Layers (from back of wall)
s
6 3 5
6
1 5 7
' - Geogrid should consist of Tensar UX1400, or equal
2 - Geogrid should consist of Tensar UX1500, or equal
This design includes a 100 pound per square foot (psf) surcharge for traffic loading.
The Keystone Blocks, geogrids, drainage ad wall backfill should be placed in strict
accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. The wall backfill may consist
of the on-site poorly graded sand with silt soil. The backfill should be compacted to
at ieast 90 percent maximum dry density in accordance with ASTM D-1557, Modified
Proctor.
Due to the relatively steep slope below the proposed wall alignment, in our opinion,
the wall should be founded on a concrete footing rather than the typical crushed rock
layer. The footing should be founded at least one foot into competent native soils.
A representative from our firm should be on-site during the excavation for the wall
footing to verify competent bearing soils are present. We should also be on-site to
observe and test the compaction of the wali backfill.
Grades above the +all should provide for positive drainage away from the wail. In no
case should surface water be allowed to flow uncontrolled over the top of the wall.
Eenh Cnnuknta, Ine.
