Zrnng Properlp 9J-/2-10
Ercrell, IVnshiuglnn
could occur. Base soil below the rockery should be continned as suitable for
bearing support by a representative of the geotechnical engineer prior to the
placement of any drainage rock or rockery. Bearing soil should be confirmed as
suitable for support of a maximum bearing value of 1500 ps£ The native sands
" encountered below the topsoil and fill at this site should meet the requirement for
support of the proposed rockery. If a two tiered rockery is used, the base bearing
soil of the upper wall should be verified by a representative of the geotechnical
engineer.
The long term stability of the proposed rockery will in part be determined by the
adequacy of the drainage on this site. GES recommends the following drainage
controls:
A ninimum twelve (12) to eighteen (18) inches of 4" to 6" crushed rock
should be placed behind the rockery wall for drainage. If the fill or
eposed soil contains over 5% fines passing the #200 sieve - based on
field observation of the soil, then we recommend that a high strength,
, puncture resistant filter fabric be placed between the drainage rock and tlie
embanlonent soil to prohibit the migration of fines into the drainage rock.
The need for the filter fabric behind the wall sliould be determined by a
representative of the geotechnical engineer at the time of conshuction.
* A minimum four (4) inch perforated P.V.C. drain line should be placed
along the Uase of embedment of each rockery wall, along tlie full length of
die rockery. The line should be placed in a shallow ditch, approximately
12" deep, dug along the back side of the keyway excavation. The line
should be laid in the base of the ditch, in such a manner as to providc
positive drainage of collected water through the line towards an
appropriate point of discharge away from the base of the rockery wall.
The drain line should be baclled with a minimum 18" of washed /S"
19 GES, Lic.
