I J:umary 20, 2004 • HWA Project No. 2003-150-Z1 TI00 � CONCLUSIONS . i Where observed, the footings were founded about 2 feet below grade, which means that there is loose fill under the footinas from about 10 feet east of the northwest comer of the house to the northwest corner, along the west wall, and then back along the entire south � wall, and probably back along the east wall for some distance (Figure 4). This correlates well with the settlement except that the house seems not to have settled where the stem ( wall and footing aze over 30 inches tall. In our �pinion, the loose fill was not compacted under the footings. The fill probably 1 settled in relation to its thickness as the load was applied. This does not necessariiy mean during conswction because other loads have been added since construction such as additions, interior objects (fumiture, etc.) and snow loads. It is unlikely that there will be � more settlement unless the load is increased beyond that which has been on the footings in the past. iRECOMMENDATIONS It is our understanding that you want to relevel the house and stabilize it against future � settlement, but are on a]imited budget. Over the past few months, we have suggested that you talk to contractors to get prices to relevel the house by: � 1. underpinning with AB Chance anchors, 2. underpinning with pin piles, 3. underpinning by undercutting and backfilling with good quality materials and, � 4. releveling on top of the existing footings without stabilizing them. It is our uaderstanding that you explored each of these options and have chosen to use the � AB Chance system. The remainder of this document addresses only ihe AB Chance system.
