i
Mr. John R. Cain
January 16, 1984
Page 2.
apparent at the time of inspection, nor was there evidence of
any other pests such as earwigs , unts , rodents , etc. No pro-
bings were made in or on these premises nor were furnishings
moved since this would tend to cause damage to same.
The fire damage extends over 80 of the Pirst and second floors.
No fire damage was noted in either tlie basement crawl area or
the attic. Some external damage was noted on the exterior oS the
house on the west side.
Although some of the wood work and trim can be salvaged, it
will not be economically feaeible to refinish much of the wood
work in the living room, dining room and stairs on the first
floor and the stairs and one bedroom on the second floor. There
is much plaster damage in these areas and some floor damage .
Studs and other structural members thut could be examined, did
not show extensive dsmage. However, hidden damage is possible
and should be expected as clean up arogresses.
The heating system should be made operational . However, before
being put back into service, the heating unit and system sUould
be thoroughly cleaned, serviced and adjusted for proner operation.
This servicing should include all gauges , controls , etc.
The roof is shoing signs of wear and should be kept under obser-
vation. Its replacement should Ue planned for soon .
Gutters are in poor condition and should be cleaned and/or re-
placed. Dry rot evas noted in botl the edges oP the roof struc-
tures and around the gutters. This should be repaired.
Since the electrical system was diconnected, no comments can be
made concerning its status or operational conditions. However,
the wiring for each iixture and switch should be inspected for
damage and between the wall wiring should be examined in ull
areas that are opened for repairs.
The plumbing s;/stem is inoperative and could not be tested. All
of the pipes that were disconnected should be reconnected beiore
water is turned on again.
I trust that this report covers the area of interest.
