All areas shall be cxcavatcd, filled, and/or backfilied as necessary to comply with thc gradcs shown on thc dra�vings. In filled and backfilled arcas, fine grading shall bcgin within thc final G" of cut. Pinal grading shall produce a surFacc that is smooth and even, without aUnipl changes m grade. Contractor shall providc tcmporary drainagc to kcep thc sub-grade frce from standing water. Thc sub-grade shall be frec from rocks o� ccmentcd lumps larger than 2%z" in greatest dimension, in thc top G". Excavation for curhs and gutters shall be accomplished by culting accurately to thc cross-sections, grades, and clevations shown. Care shall be takcn not to excavate Uclow the specified grades. The Contractor shall maintain all excavations free from detrimcntal quantities of leaves, brush, sticks, trash, and other debris until final acccptancc of the work. There will Ue no separatc payment for haul on any material moved within or from [he project site and the Contractor shall include the cost of hauling in his various unii contracl prices. Acceptable cxcavated nalivc soils shall bc used for fill in the arcas reyuiring fills. Care shall be taken tc place excavated matcrial at the optimum moisturc content to achieve the spccified compaction. Any native material used for fill shall be free of organics and debris and have a maximum particic size of G'. Materials that bccome saWraled shall not Uc used for fill until tlte moislure contcnt of tite fill mects thc requirements of Scction 2-03. The maximum density and optimum moisWre content sliall bc deterniincd using the modificd proctor per ASTM D-1557. It will bc the responsibility of thc Contractor to prcvent tl�e native matcri�ils from bccoming saturated with water. If the native materials bccome saturated, it will be the responsibility of the Contractor to dry lhc materials, at his expcnse, to the optimum moisture contenL Any delays as a result of having to dry the material will not be cause for additional timc or money. Where native materials arc unacceplable for roadway (ill, unless olhenvise directcd by tlie cngineer, or shown on the plans, Uie fill material shall bc "Gravcl Borrow".
