ROY E. CALVIN,
June 22, 1973
Mr. Sohn Farrens
Building Inspection Department
City Hall
3002 Zdetmore Avenue
Everett, Washington 98201
Re: Ceiling Grid
Everett Mall I '
Everett, [4ashington
Dear Mr. Friends:
AIA ARCHITECT
CORRC'TED COPY
T

313 SOUTH MARKET
WICHITA, KANSAS G]202
PHONE l3161 2658584
Pursuant to our discussion concerning the installation of the one-hour
ceiling grid at the referenced project, we have been advised by Mr. Pred
McGuire, Acme Acoustics, that Pir. McGuire had 'oeen in contact with both
Underwriter's Laboratory and the I•Iashington Survey and Rating Bureau as
to cahether they require the intersection of the ceiling tees and ceiling
molding to be pop-riveted in order to obtain a one-hour fire rated ceiling.
Loth agencies have advised Mr. McGuire that pop-riveted is not required if
all materials meet UL requirements. Mr. Gasfield of the Washington
Survey and Rating Bureau is to issue a letter to Mr. McGuire that the
pop-riveting is not required to obtain a one-hour rated ceiling. Upon
receipt of the same, cae coill copy your office.
As we have specified a one-hour ceiling to meet the Washington Survey and
Rating Bureau insurance requirements, we coill not require the intersection
to be pop-riveted if Pfr. Gasfield issues the above mentioned letter. This
does not apply to the theater ceiling grid as the one-hour ceiling is required
by the Uniform Building Code.
Very txuly yours,
ROY .
