REPORT OF SOILS INVESTIGATION
PROPOSED FREDERICK & NELSON DEPARTMENT STORE
EVERETT MALL, EVERETT, WASHINGTON
for
FREDERICK & NELSON
INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of our soils investigation at the
site of the Frederick & Nelson Department Store which is planned for
construction at the Everett Mall shopping center. The new store will be
built in the southern portion of the center, southeast of the existing
Sears building. The proposed location of the Frederick & Nelson store is
shown relative to the Sears store and other proposed construction on the
Plot Plan, Plate 1.
We understand that the proposed building will be two stories in
height and of steel frame construction with masonry walls. The building
will measure about 305 feet by 195 feet in plan dimensions with 30-foot
by 30-foot structural bays. Column loads are estimated at about 160
kips, and wall loads are expected to be about 6 kips per lineal foot
(including dead and live loads). The first floor will be constructed as a
slab -on -grade, with finished floor established at Elevation 508.8 (identical
to finished floor elevations for the existing mall). Existing grades at
the Frederick & Nelson -:tore site will have to be raised from 3 to 8 feet
to achieve the planned finished floor elevation.
The ourposa of our investigation is to eva:.uate the soil and ground
water conditions in the proposed building area and to provide recommenda-
tions for site preparation and foundation support. Specifically, our
services include:
1. Exploring oubsurface conditions by drilling three shallow test
borings in the building area.
2. Performing limited laboratory testing on samples obtained from
the borings.
GAMES a M00"r-
