Pl/BL/C WOMAE9
September 27, 2013
Mr. John M. Roberts
Precision Exhaust
33780 Mills Road, Ste B
Avon, OH 44011
Project: Express Japan TI
Job Address: 1402 SE Everett Mall Way, Food Court #623
Plan Review No: B1309-011, M1309-022, K1309-003
Dear Mr. Roberts,
In response to your application for a construction permit, your plans have been examined and you are advised
that revisions may be necessary before a permit can be issued. Please review and respond to the comments
below. All required submittals must be of sufficient detail and information to ensure that the proposed
structure will be co.,-tr cted in compliance with all adopted codes.
In order for the pr!- :-essing of your application to continue, it wi6 be necessary to provide the Building Division
with two sets o' c.: nstruction documents reflecting the corrections requested. Those revised sheets can be
sent by e-mail to=xpedite processing.
Construction (61309-012 and M1309-022)
1. Vision lights on doors should be shown as minimum 66 inches above the floor or maximum 13 inches
above the floor to the bottom of the vision panel, per ICC A117.1-2009 Section 404.2.10.
2. The combustible wall construction shown on the food court side of the hood requires 18 inches of
clearance, per IMC 507.9. Alternatively, the following options can be shown on the drawings:
i. A letter from the testing facility, on their letterhead, to a proprietary Type I hood
manufacturer is required to reduce the clearance to combustible construction to zero
clearance. Note that testing to UL 710 alone does not eliminate Type I hood combustible
clearances, reference exception 1 to IMC section 507.1. The mechanical drawings should
indicate the name of the proprietary hood manufacturer that corresponds to the testing
facility report AND the section showing the construction required `or zero clearances per the
testing report; or,
ii. One of the clearance reduction methods shown in IMC Table 308.6 for vertical combustible
assemblies from 18 inches to 6 inches should be shown on the drawings behind the lighting
and proposed translucent plex panels; or;
iii. The detail is changed to all non-combustible. materials mounted on a traditional drywall and
metal stud partition, behind the hood, including the standard three inch baffle for the hood
construction. Drywall should be shown on the drawings attached to both sides of the metal
stud, with stainless steel on the hood side of the drywall attached the metal stud.
/3. The listed assembly for the grease duct enclosure system of one hour resistant grease duct fire wrap
(typically two layers is required by the testing facility) should be shown to meet the requirements of
ASTM E 2336, with the required clearances shown on the drawings, per IMC section 506.3.6, exception
3.
i?2
