On 1/3/92, I <br />spoke with Tim Tyler from the Building Department, and I am <br />C/� <br />lo,.1. <br />still unclear about the insulation requirements for reroofing. <br />We are attempting to clarify the City's position and inlerpre- <br />�„ <br />tation of the Code that you indicated requires installing <br />f®1 <br />thicker or higher "U" value insulation than what is currently <br />on an existing building, <br />In your conversation with Mr. Dregger you indicated that "to a <br />degree practical and possible" that two options are available <br />to calculate insulation values to meet the current 1991 <br />Washington State Energy Code: <br />�•`o <br />- Minimum R-30 for roof system <br />or <br />- Total building "U" calculations <br />As roof consultants, we have not encountered a Building <br />...�� <br />Department that has required upgrade of roof insulation on a <br />reroof project to moot current "R° or "U" values, unles's the <br />value of the retrofit project dollar val,�- exceeded 30% to 50$ <br />of the value of the building. <br />_ <br />ftw <br />rl <br />CONSULTING & INSPECTION <br />u <br />4 <br />h <br />
