Comprehensive Transit Service Plan
EVERETI TRANSIT Executive Summary
Everett Transit's Mission
Everett Transit's mission statement, as reflected in the 1994 Transit Comprehensive
Plan, read as follows:
"The City of Everett provides mobility choices for travelers in Everett through
convenient, high quality transit services and facilities. Everett's transit system:
❑ Serves the needs of the transit dependent community
❑ Provides transit services that are cost effective, safe and
reliable
❑ Provides viable alternatives to the single occupant automobile
to help mitigate the effects of traffic congestion
❑ Supports Everett's Commute Trip Reduction ordinance
❑ Enhances neighborhood accessibility and circulation
• Links the City's neighborhoods and activity centers
❑ Inaugurates comprehensive, state-of-the art feeder transit
connections with regional service as a prototype for the region
❑ Includes opportunities for public input in the transit planning
process"
The project Steering Committee wrestled with the need to balance the provision of
services and programs to meet community expectations with the availability of
existing and future transportation funding. The market research has demonstrated
the existence of a strong transit market in the Everett area. Community members
have voiced strong support for the continued operations of Everett Transit as a
separate entity and have indicated a willingness to support those operations
financially. This project has identified many opportunities for an expanded role for
Everett Transit in community transportation planning and service.
To reflect these conditions, the consultant, Everett Transit staff, the Steering
Committee and other stakeholders have proposed the following alternative mission
statement:
"Everett Transit's Mission is to provide safe, cost efficient, effective,
and innovative public transit and transportation management
services in support of sustainable growth and a livable community."
This new mission statement goes beyond Everett Transit's traditional role as a
provider of public transportation services by expanding its responsibilities as a
broker of transportation services and programs, including those provided by other
agencies, reflecting the high degree of community support for that mission.
To support that expanded mission, the following policies are proposed:
Perteet Engineering,Inc.
