Everett City Council
March 16, 2005
Page 2
Providence is a powerful economic force in Everett and Snohomish County. The
third largest private employer in the county, Providence currently has over 3,200
employees and with the planned expansion will provide jobs for more than 5,000
employees. Additionally, almost 600 hospital physicians have offices in Everett
that provide additional health care jobs in our community. In 2004 Providence
paid over $12 million in taxes, and contributed over $27 million in charity and
uncompensated health care to the community. Additionally, the hospital intends to
make a $400 million investment in Everett in the future.
In conclusion, the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce, as approved by our Board
of Directors, strongly supports Providence Everett Medical Center's request for
your approval of an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan Map Designation
and a rezone from Single Family to Institution for the area, as well as the
requested changes affecting Block 248 of the Donovan District. We encourage
the City Council to find in favor of the hospital's request.
Yours truly,
- IL-67=s
Louise Stanton-Masten
President & CEO
CC: Ray Stephanson, Mayor, City of Everett
Aaron Reardon, Snohomish County Executive
2000 Hewitt Ave. Ste.205, Everett,Washington 98201 ® 425.257.3222 ■ FAX:425.257.2074 a www.everettchamber.com
