Everett Public Library Outreach patrons, quotes and anecdotes:
"The bookmobile (outreach services) with the big print books is the
brightest spot in this retiree's life. I read most of the time. I feel like
this is a significant part of my life as it keeps my mind active, so I don't
drift into Senility." Senior apartment resident
"The Everett Public Library's outreach service provides invaluable
service to the residents of Washington Oakes Retirement community. We
have a large number of seniors who no longer drive and look forward to the
personalized visits each month. Bev and Gloria do an amazing job of getting
to know our residents and which books and authors they enjoy. The access
to the large print books is vital to our aging residents."
Marketing Representative, Washington Oakes Retirement Community
"To those of us who love to read, the day the Butterfly Bus (outreach
van) comes, bringing Gloria and all her books is the red-letter day of the
month. Unless you are in our position, you have only a tiny idea of the
importance. Books are not only a joy but a life saver, and I really mean
that." Home library service patron
A family member reported that they had decided it really was time
for 'Mother' to move from her home to an assisted living situation. She was
adamant that she did not want to leave her home, but they convinced her to
at least go and look at an adult family home. While she was there to see it,
Gloria arrived for her monthly visit bringing books to the residents.
'Mother' was one of Gloria's home library patrons, and when she saw Gloria
there, she said, "Why didn't you tell me that Gloria would still bring me
books if I moved here!" She moved to the adult family home where she
remained one of our outreach patrons.
"I hope you can bring me some more books soon. I'm all through with
the ones you brought and if you can't come today, I'll have to start reading
the phone book." (Message left on our voice mail.)
"Reading is among the greatest pleasures we have and those two ladies
(Gloria and Bev) help us to enjoy it to the fullest." Senior mobile home park
patron
