The existing soda ash feeder system is run continuously, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The failure of the soda ash feeder system would result in a misbalance of chemical feeds and possible action by the Snohomish County Health Department and the state. Maintenance required for the existing system is excessive as the equipment is wearing out. Brown & Caldwell has prepared plans and specifications for the purchase and installation of a new soda ash feeder system. Soda ash is a difficult chemical to mix and feed, and also is the most expensive chemical used at the Plant, and require specialized equipment designed for very specific purposes. RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council): Authorize a call for bids for purchase and installation of a new soda ash feeder system for the Water Filtration Plant.
