C
Test Results/Conclusions:
On yay 20, the author took seven soil samples from tne pit
wh;n the eca•ations were completed (See the Ma 21,
Sampling Plan in appendi:< B11. _
:11so, the stockpiles in the east parking lot were tested as
composite of three sampies on *fay 18, lSee Sample s Comp.l
on Map 18-20, Test Results in Appendix B) and on the
completed stockpiles on May 20, (See Sample 8 contam.
stock and #9 clean on same lab sheet).
The North Creek Analytical Lab test results indicate that
the north side of the pit is clean, but that the remaining
sides and bottom are still contaminated. It is believed
that because the till was so dense, no roots found t
provide channel for ¢asoline migration and no ground water
present to carry away the contamination that the majority
of the current gas spill, probably 90X of the current
spill, has been removed. What remains is the result of the
long term spill from approximately .1981 to May 15, 1991.
This is supported by the three Metals Analyses dated June
1fi, by ivorth Creek Labs which shows presence of lead or the
spilling of leadd gas from this tank.
Status of Soil Remediation:
On July 19 and 22, the City's Contractor, Demolition Man
Inc., meved the stockpiled conaminated so;l to an
abandoned runway at Paine Field and spread the 2i0 yd3 to
12 itiches maximum over 6 mil. plastic and between hay
bales. The contractor could only till the top 4-5 inches
with the small farm tractor tiller but with a few heavy
rains the soil has been tested by Environmental Materials
Resources and founded to be Class 1 soil here on September
11, 1991. Our contractor dumped the soil in n industrial
fillsite just south oP the runway about 2,000 feet (See
Appendix B for test results and sample plan with the E.M.R.
Inc. letter).
Stockpiled soils, G-TPH and BTEY soils tests were performed
as follows:
1. At original stockpile
site at Fire Station
No. 5, May 18, 1991
2. At Paine Field
August 1, 1991 -kl
4" deep ma:c.
2
Composite
Discrete
3,500 ppm
1.8 pPm
