EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br />At the request of the City of Everett (the Ciry), G-Logics has completed a site exploration to <br />better determine the nature and extent of any remaining gasoline contamination at this site. <br />This property is identified as Fire Statioe 5 and the four adjacent residential properties <br />located at the intersection of Madison Screet and Beverly Boulevard, in Everett, <br />Washington. Contamination at this site was originally discovered in 1991, due to a release <br />from an underground gasoline storage tank located at the southwest comer of the fire- <br />station building. Aiso in 1991, this tank and a large volume of contaminated soils were <br />excavated and removed from the site. <br />G-Logics and subcontract personnel completed seven soil borings on the subject property in <br />October of 2000. Five borings were completed for a concurrent geotechnical exploration. <br />Two deeper borings, located in the area the former underground storage tank (JST) release, <br />were drilled and completed as groundwater monitoring wells. Soil samples were obtained <br />from borings and were submitted for laboratory analysis. Extremely dense fine-grained soils <br />(glac .1 till) were encountered throughout the property to depths of approximately 40 feet. <br />At this depth, sands, with some gravel and silt, were discovered to exp;ore depths <br />(maximum 60 feet). Subsurface soils were discovered to be occasionally moist, but did not <br />yield water into the two completed wells. <br />Petroleum-contaminated soils were not discovered by this exploration, but contaminuus <br />were identified in two of the eight analyzed soil sampies (at concentrations below published <br />cleanup levels). Petroleum cor,taminanu were discovered in the water sample collected <br />from VW-1, a vapor monitoring well installed in 1991. These contaminants included <br />gasoline-range hydrocazbons and the related compounds ethylbenzene, toluene, and xylenes. <br />The water present in VW-1 appears to be due to infiltraticn of surface water azound the <br />monitoring well and not representative of groundwater or perched groundwater. <br />Based on the results of this exploration, G-Logics concludes that: <br />• Additional soil or groundwater sampling to further define the azea impacted <br />by gasoline contaminants is not necessary.
