EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
At t.e request of the City of Everett (the City), G-Logics has completed a site exploration to
better determinP the nature and extent of any remaining gasoline contamination at this site.
This property is identified as Fire Station 5 and the four adjacent residential properties
located at the intersection of Madison treet and Beverly Boulevard, in Everett,
Washington. Contamination at this site was originally discovered in 1991, due to a release
from an underground gasoline storage tank located at the southwest comer of the fire-
station building. Also in 1991, this tank and a lazge volume of contaminated soils were
excavated and removed from the site.
G-Logics and subcontract personnel completed seven soil borings on the subject property in
October of 2000. Five borings were completed for a concurrent geotechnical exploration.
Two deeper borings, located in the azea the Former underground storage tank (UST) release,
were drilled and completed as groundwater monitoring wells. Soil samples were obtained
from borings and were submitted for laboratory analysis. Extremely dense fine-grained soils
!gla; ial till) were encounterea ;oughout the property to depths of approximately 40 feet.
At th's depth, sands, with some gra.+el and silt, were discovered to explor„ depths
(maximum 60 feet). Subsurface soils were discovered to be occasionally moist, but did not
yield water into the two completed wells.
Petroleum-contaminated soils were not discovered by this exploration, but contaminants
were identified in two of the eight analyzed soil samples (at concentrations befow published
cleanup levels). Petroleum contam:nants were discovered in the water sample collected
from VW-1, a vapor monitoring well installed in 1991. T'hese contaminants included
gasoline-rang• hydrocazbons and the related compounds ethylbenzene, toluene, and xylenes.
The water present in VW-1 appears to be due to infiltration of surface water azound tLe
monitoring well and not representative of groundwater or perched groundwater.
Based on the results of this exploration, G-Logics concludes that:
• Additional soil or groundwater sampling to further define the azea impacted
by gasoline cntaminants is not necessary. t3ased on information discovered
during this e:cploration, and our understanding of pending regulatory changes
and planned site uses, the detected contaminant concentrations aze not
expected to pose a threat to human health or the environment.
01•0105-C-RT.doc ?{ ^'/CS
Copyright 2001 G-Lagics, fnc.
