3.0 SITE EX'LORATION ACTIVITIES
To provide information on possible to maintain soil and groundwater contamination at this
site, several different methods of subsurface investigation were conducted on the subject
property. Soil exploration included completion of r.iultiple exploratory soil borings ad the
collection of subsurface soil samples. In order to access the possible presence and quality of
shaltow groundwater in the area of concern, several of the exploratory soil borings were
completed as monitoring wells.
A G-Logics geologist was present during the exploration to observe and document soil and
groundwater conditions. (Note: All G-Logics geologists are registered with the Washington
Department of Ecology (Ecology) Underground Storage Tank Program to perform tank site
assessments [WAC 173-360-600 through 173-360-680].)
The following tasks were executed under this scope of services:
• Drilled and sampled seven (7) soil borings. Five of these borings were
completed for a concurrent geotechnical investigation (for the new station
building design).
• Completed two of the borings as monitoring wells (BH-6/MW-1 and BH-
7/MW-2), even though sucient groundwater did no: appeaz to be present.
• Submitted soil samples from the completed borings (BH-6 and BH-%) for
peuoleum-hydrocazbons analyses.
• Measured water levels in the two new monitoring wells and the two existing
moito-itg wells (VW-1 and VW-2).
• Abandoned well VW-1, as the well casing was discovered to be broken and
obstrucied •with bentonite. This wPll was opened with a drilling rod, filled
with granulaz bentonite, the bentonite hydrated with water, and the well
capped with concrete.
• Collected water samples from WV-2 (the only wcll discovered to contain
water, although possibly due to infiltrallon of surface water caused by a poor
surface seal).
• Submitted the collected water sample (from VW-2) for petroleum-
hydrocarbons analyses.
• Prepazed this report to document our fandings and recommendarions for this
area of the property.
01-0105-GRT.doc . i( S/"t('S
Copyright 2001 Gd.agics, Inc.
