AirTouch Cellulat
3 October 7997
7-91 M-11905-0
Page 6
feasible foundation options for this site. Our specific recommendations concerning design
and constructon of drilled piers and mat footings are presenied in the following
subsections.
4.3.1 Drilled Piers
For the purposes of des?pn, we have extrapolated geotechnical desin information beyond
the refusal depth in our boring (approximately 35 feet), based on our experience with
similar soils and our knowledge of soil conditions in the vicinity of ;he site. We
( recommend that AEE be present in the field during construction to confirm ttie extrapoiated
soil conditions. The following comments and recommendations are provided for drilled pier
 design and construction purposes.
Desian Values: Table 1, below, summarizes the soil vaiues utilized in our geotech!iical
engineering aalysis for the soil layers encountered at this site. We derived these values
from our t:xplorations and fiald testing, as well as from latratory testing performed on
similar materials and established correlations for soil properties. These values are
I presentAd for background information only; the use of these soil values in cursory or
supplemental enalyses should be by icnowledgeable geotechnical engineers only and should
incorporate physr.al factors that may influence the allowable soil reaction for known
 loading conditions.
TABLE 1
SUMMARY OF SOIL VALUES FOR DECIGN 6F DRILLED PIERS
Depfh li;-Place Internal Cohesion
nterval Density Friction Angle (psf)
(feet) (pcf) (degrees)
0 to 5 125 30 0
5 to 12Yz 132 32 0
12'/: to 28 135 34 0
28 to 40 138 36 0
` Comoressive Caoacitv: We recommend that the drilled pier penetrate at least 10 feet
below the ground surface. Tabie 2 presents our recommended allowable compressive
capaci:ies for drilled piers of varying diameter and depth. These values incorporate a
safety factor of 1.5 and include reductions for the dead weight of the pier; as such, they
( represent groundline compressive capacities. A linea! interpolation may be used between
each depth interval to obtain the allowab!e capacity for that specific depth.
7•B1M-11806-0
