Fills
placed in sloping areas greater than 5:1 (H:17 should be constructed only on properly benched and
keyed soil, as specified in WSDOT Standard Specification section 2-03.3(14), Earth Embankment
Cacstruction. Improperly benched and placed fill over slopes could result in movement or settlement of
tlie fill at some later date. Permanently exposed fill slopes should not be steeper than 2:1 (H:17. If
steeper slopes are necessary, reinforced slopes or retaining walls may be required. The development of
design recommendations for these types of structures is beyond the scope of work approved at this
time. GES, Inc. cau provide recommeudations and specifications for these types of special design
requirements upon request.
Slab on grade floor designs may be utilized on this site. We recommend that all floor slabs be placed
with a minimum four (4) inches of clean, free draining granular sand below them If a vapor barrier is
placed below tle slab, we recommead that a minimum two (2) inches of sand be placed between the
slab and the barrier to allow for proper curing of tle slab at the time of construction.
4.4 Cuts and Excavations
Careful and prudent construction practices are advised when working around cuts, excavations and
slopes graded from fills. All cuts and excavations should conform to Washington Department of
Labor and Industries Standards for Constructioo Work, chapter 296-I55 WAC pnr!
