Oricntation
Scveral data plots were sampled and labelcd in alphabetical sequencc. Among these, hvo
plots were selected;one exhibiling positive wetl;ud indicators andne eibiting
negative wedand(upland)indicators. These plots remain labcled w"1t neon orange flags
in the field for verification. Betwcen the tiq a ncon-pink Ilagged stake marks the
dividir:line, indicating the wetland edge.
Some plots were performed as control sites to establish the lack of wetland indicators in
suspect areas. In addition, orangc Ilagging was hung along the OHVM of the strcam
channel to aid in field survcy.
FINDINGS
Gata was collected at sevcr:l sessions from I'ebruvy ]":ud 2",2007. Wcather
conditions werc cloudy and cool, and closely associated with intermittent rain cvents timt
yiclded moist soils necessary for accurate identification as well as active stream Ilow.
The parameters below discuss general chazacterisiics of the plots sampled. Data shcets
supporting the delineation are attached at the end of the report. Representalive dclincation
of the wetland is mapped to aid in field study and verification (see fig. 4).
Vegetation
The US Pish and Wildlife Department's ]988 National Wetland Inventory(fig. 3)does
not document wetlands in the area. Field conditions indicated Uie presence of minimal but
qualifying forested coer. The ilora of representative samples consisted primarily of
Tht ja plicala, dlnus rufira, and Salix lasiandra in the forest canopy, with a shrub layer
dominated by Rubus spectabr(is, and Ranunctd:s repens in the wetland positive samples.
Upland plots primarily consisted of Tht ja plicata with shivb Polystichum m:mi(ian and
inv3sive Hedera helix as ground cover.
Soils
1'he Natural Rescues Conservation District Snoliomish County Soils Survey designates
the areas soil type as Alderwood Urban Land Complex 2-S%slopes(fig. 5 A&B). Thesc
soils arc moderately well drained with rapid pertncability.A&B Inycrs arc deep over
hardpan and are dark grayish brown. These soils have been in association with human
devclopment for such an extended length of time that their parent types in intermixed and
indistingwshable.
There is also a conflict with these soils in deir suitability for drainfields. These soils by
nalurc havc hardpan at their seasonally high water tables, leading to perched effluent that
can causc system failurc in periods of high rainfall.
