TOM McKEE replied yes.
MIKE NICKERSON asked if the professionals that the McKees have had look at the
building had made any suggestions about ways to make it safe.
PAM McKEE said that the licensed contractors who have looked at it as possible
purchasers have mentioned different plans for the building, inciuding leaving certain
walls. TOM McKEE said that tlie professionals say it will stand up for awhile yet. He
proposed supporting the sag in the structure with 2 x 4's or 4 x 4's.
There was a discussion about lot width. TOM McKEE says it is 37 1/2 feet. Possibly
there is not enough room for four pazking stalls.
JIM GAFFNEY asked several questions about whether any work would be done during
the six months if an extension were granted, and what would be done after the six
mon[hs if the property had not been sold.
TOIvi McKEE said, "We would by that time have installed a foundation," and could
decide at that lime aUout [aking it down or rebuilding.
JOHN JONES asked Tim Tyler if the Boazd denies the appeal and the City abates, how
long would it be before a contractor actually started work on demolition, and would the
City be able to pro[ect the owner's right to rebuild?
TIM TYLER replied that it wouid take two weeks to get to City Council, then if
Council authorized abatement, a contractor would have to be hired--probably six weeks
in all before work started. The City would not be able to protect the owner's rights to
build a non-conforming building.
DANA MEEKS commented [he neighborhood does need the parking spaces.
JOHN JONES asked if the owner still has the option of taking care of abatement
himself right up until the contractor shows up.
TIM TYLER replied yes.
The public hearing ended and Tim Tyler told the McKees that he would call them this
afternoon, and that they would also receive notice in the mail of the Board's decision.
The McKees and Dana Meeks then left the meeting.
The Board discussed the range of actions open to Mr. McKee, which include securing
the building, or demolishing, or rebuilding. They noted that he had had time to take at
least minimal action and had not demonstrated clear intent to take timely action.
John Jones moved the Board deny the appeal, Mike Nickerson seconded the motion,
the motion to deny passed unanimously.
notes prepared by Margare[ McLeod
/mckee.doc
