The Washinglon Slate Deparlment of Health (DOH) cross connection regulations require water
purveyors, such as Everett, to maintain safe drinking water by taking precautions to ensure that fire
protection water in both commercial and residential sprinkler systems does not backFlow in[o the public
system. In the past, single check valves were considered as an adequate back(low device for commercial
properties. However, DOH has determined that doubie check deteccor assemblies (DCDA) are the
minimum acceptable backflow protection device for coimercial fire protection systems. Some
commercial buildings in Everett still have single check-valves installed, which now must be upgraded to a
DCDA for commerciai fire services when new conslruction is planned that will affect fire services. This
additional protection is necessary to adhere to DGH regulztions and ensure safe drinking water.
Sincerely,
 -ti-c-,.
Tim Markham, WQCO
Cross Connection Specialist
cc: Permit Services Manager Paul McKee, Assistanf Fire Marshal Jim \enturo, Utilities Records Mane, ger
Veri Sly, Meg Haiey
CITY OF f_VERETT • 3200 Cedar Street • Everett, WA 98207 •(425) 257-8800 • Fax (425) 257-8882
