The requirements for the size and spacing are indicated
in the Structural Notes. Horizontal joint reinforcing, #9 wires @ each anchored joint, should be
added. A minimum of 1" air space shall be maintained to the backing and Spot bedding used at
the ties.
I concur with the letter in that the back up steel studs should be a minimum of 20 ga. The
maximum spacing, per UBC, is 16" o.c.
Crack control joints should be considered at the brick veneer but are not recommended at the fuily
reinforced brick masonry walls.
the following corrections need to be made to the Structural sections:
Sheet S3.9. Sections 6. 12 and 13. Steel stud, 3 5/8" X 20 ga. @ 16" o.c.
Sheet S3.12, Section 7. At 4" HMCU. reinforce with #3 @ 24" o.c. verticals in grout filled cells.
Sincerely,
MCLATERSON ASSOCIATES, INC.
D.
