NIEMI <br />June 4, 1990 <br />RE: Everett Main Library <br />#87-085/RFI #4 <br />Bruce McLaren our structural engineer has reviewed your letter <br />from Structural Design Associates in reference to the Elks <br />parking structure. Bruce is confident their design for the <br />replacement of a portion of the existing spalling concrete beam <br />is adequate and will leave the garage in better condition than it <br />presently exists. <br />The statement in the letter about the replacement of the present <br />continuous shear wall is not correct. The north wall is <br />supported on columns and the adjacent wall is the Library. This <br />wall was built after the parking structure and they are not <br />connected. Our design replaces this condition with a larger <br />shear wall. <br />I have enclosed a copy of a drawing we found during our research <br />which might help you with your shoring design. <br />I have notified the City per your request and sent a copy of your <br />preliminary demolition schedule as required for coordination with <br />the Elks. The City will contact the Elks and set up a meeting to <br />review this. we have asked that the Elks refrain from parking on <br />or under the remaining structure during the removal of the <br />concrete tees. You will need to define the time period for this <br />activity.
