K +
Structural Survey of Settlement Damage t,n Buildings
Page 6
hazardous condition. No heavy loads should be applied to upper floors until
a more detailed structural evaluation can be made. All cracks noted should
be continually monitored and additional movement ShOUI be brougnt to the
attention of the City Building official.
Geo Lab Engineers' records indicate subsidence has stopped but do not
guarantee that further subsidence will not occur. Records of soils borings
and settlement record are not available for tnis report, if further
settlement occurs all buildings should be recnecked.
The foregoing structural observations and comments are not intended to
indicate that any of the buildings will meet all Uniform Building Code
design criteria. Most will not, however, relative to past building
performance, the recent settlement has created a significant reduction of
the building's capacity to resist lateral loads due to earthquake. These
old masonry buildings were not designed to resist earthquake loads as
stipulated by the Uniform Building Code. No structural engineering analysis
was performed on the surveyed buildings and it is expected that each would
differ In structural strength. Therefore, this report in no way
guaranties the structural adequacy to withstand further settlement, heavy
floor loads, snow load or earthquake loads, as required by the UBC Code.
p
