SEATTLE LIGHTING COMPANY
222 2No AVENUE • SEATTLE 4, WASHINGTON
April 6, 1965
Mr. Daugherty,
Electrical Inspector
Everett City Hall
Everett, Washington
Re: Room hanging wall lights at Merry Crest Nursing Home.
Dear Mr. Daugherty:
We understand that a question has risen regarding these
portable wall lights, as to their conformance to Under-
writers Laboratories specifications.
All of the 'lighting equipment that we manufacture is made
to conform to U. L. specifications. Portable lamps come
ender a different category and one which is not as rigid
as those covering lighting fixtures. However, in this
particular instance we provided every possible safe guard
to insure proper functioning of the wall light even much
more then for portable hanging lights. The light has a
insulated porcelain socket with a cord clamp inside the
socket also a reinforced round plastic covered wire with
a keyed wall plug to insure grounding, even though it will
neven be possible to touch the shade or socket and receive
a shock. Nevertheless, we did feel that this added feature
was just good precaution.
We installed approximately 18 months ago 130 of this same
fixture in the Merry Vista Nursing Home here in Seattle,
there has not been one failure to date and we understand
they are all functioning properly.
Trusting this explanation will satisfy your concern. How-
ever, should you have any further questions we would be
pleased to hear from you.
Yours ve y truly,
S A ' LIGt OM
T. 0.
