Follou,ing is a chronological listing
of 25 (taenty-five) City involvements with the :nembers of this neigh-
borhood .ho include iot only thr residents but the business neighbors.
All of tlie 5 have been about the parking problem within the nei9hbor-
hood. The ;nvolvements range from citizen phone calls, citizens coming
in to the htayor or Coirncil, neighborhood meetings on the street or
formally at Loaell School. The issue has always been the conflict of
parking created by the older homes having garages too small for larger
vehicles of tofay, the Olympic 6ank variance of not having enough off
street space, GTE's growing parking need, high parking need ef clinics
and so on.
Each similar recommendation to the f3oard to not approve a parking
variance is witi similar background concern.
The minutes show +:hat neighbors protested to the board on this occasion
and the request is for an engineering solution to allow the parking
variance. The history shows that the neighborhood :s opposed to permit
parking. The only engineerny solution is to provide the code required
oPf street space. Widening Hoyt to install angle parking could 6e
interpreted as providing that space by subtracting the existiny nuinber
of on street spaces from the increased number of angle spaces and
assigning the difference to the development.
