SECTION 8-20.3(14)D OF THE STANDARD SPEC[FItATIONS IS SUPPLEMENTED BY THE
FOLLOWING:
I &20.3(14)D Tesu for Induction Loops and Lcad-In Cablc
I All tests shall be perfortned by the contracror in the presence of the engineer for each loop. The tess shall be
performed at the amplifier location after complete installation of loop. All loops shall be tested for inductance,
resistance, isola[ion, and induced voltage as defined below.
Inductance - Loop inductance in micro Henry's shall be measured between the 2 lead in cable wires using an
( inductance meter.
Resistance-The DC resistance behveen the 2 lead in cable wires shall be measured using a Volt Ohm Meter. The
I resistance shali not exceed 15 Ohms per loup.
Isolation - A meg Ohm meter test at 500 volts DC shall be made between the lead in cable hield and grounding, !
prior to connection to grounding. The resistance shall equal or exceed 50 megohms.
( A megger test shall bc made behveen the loop circuit and grounding. The resistance shall equal or exceed 100
megohms.
IInduced Voltage - Induced voltage. between the 2 lead in cable wires shall be measured with a millivolt meter.
The induced voitage shall not exceed 1 volt at all locations. i

I If any of the installations fails to pass all tests, the loop installation, splice, or lead in cable shall be replaced ;
entirely and the loop shall be retested until all tests have been passed. I
All testing of loop detectors shall be incidental to the contract price for installing the loop detectors.
i
8-20.3(14)F Loop Detector Lead-In Cablc{1 pair)(New Section)
I Two conduc:or shielded #14 AWG lead-in cable conforming to IMSA Specification #50-2-1984 st.iall be installed
where shown in the wiring schedule in the Plans. Where existing loop lead-in cable is present, the existing cable
shall be pulled out and disposed of. The new lead-ia cable shall be spliced to the Ioop wires utilizint;a scotch cast
I epoxy 82-81 splice kit or approved equal as detailed ir. Standard Plan ]-8a. Where the wiring scheduie in the
plans calls for more than one loop detector to be spliced into a single lead-in cable, the loops shall be wired in
series. The loop detector lead-in cable shall be pulled inro the controller cabinet and connected to the detector
Ichanncl terminals as indicated in the loop detector schedule in the plans.
8-20.3(14)G Loop Detector Lead-In Cable(3 pair) (New Section)
I Three pair loop detector lead-in cable shall be installed where shown in the wiring schedule in the plans. Belden
1037A is a preapproved source for this cable. Other cablec may be submitted for approval consistent with the
following specifications: Three pair loop detector lead-in cable shall consist of three individually twiste and
I shieided pairs of It1G AWG stranded copper wire, surrounded by an euterjacket of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Each pair shall also contain a stranded copper drain wire and shall be individunlly shielded with an aluminum
polyester foil shield.
I SECTION 8-20.4 OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS IS SUPPLEMIENTED BY THE
FOLLOWING:
( 8-20.4 Measurement
I "Telemetry Cable, Pair" shall bc RGA P-39 or P-38 as indicated on the plans and will be measured by the
I linear foot for the acWal neat liae Iength in place.
p:Wcwa00NNWKconav.doc
David fvans and 9'socioics,Ina SP-I1 7lh Ave.SP/IOOttwRt.Signal Modification
lune1998
